What sort of a mum are you?

Waiting outside the school doors watching my phone eagerly for 8.40 to strike I look at the queue of parents in the playground waiting to take their children into class. There is 'just-off-to-the-gym' mummy in her tight leggings, vest top and trainers all slim and toned, 'makeup-mummy' who has probably already been up 3 hours straightening her hair, picking out the perfect outfit and heels ready for the day and then there is the complete opposite 'just-fallen-out-of-bed-mummy' who literally looks like she's sleep walking with her unbrushed hair and breakfast stained t-shirt always arriving just on time.

I think about myself and how I appear to others. I'd probably class myself as 'taller-than-average-dull-wardrobe-mummy'. I'm 6ft which is tall for a woman and the majority of my clothes are black and boring. I don't like to stand out from the crowd generally or draw attention to myself. I just plod on wearing what I find comfortable without thinking about being a fashion icon. I live in ballet pumps, black skinny leg jeans and the only colour I explore is pink and red on the rare occasion.

I've had a nosey on Joe Browns website and found some really lovely casual chic items that I would love to add to my wardrobe. They won't break the bank and they also do a longer length trouser which is ideal for my 34" pins.

I think these three items would be ideal for me. A little bit of colour yet comfort is still key. The shoes tie in nicely with the floral dress (which I would actually wear as a longer length top) without clashing and the jeans can be dressed up or down with other clothes too. I imagine they are called Awesome Fit for that very reason and I would think the bootcut style would level out my curvy hips and thighs nicely.

How do you think your clothing makes you appear to others?
Does it matter to you what others think?
Do you dress for comfort or style?

  1. Wow, you are so lucky to have long legs! That's the one thing i wasn't blessed with and wish i'd had! Love your outfit choice though, that floral top is gorgeous and it's a long length which i like too xxx

    1. Thanks :) I hope the layers cover my mummy tummy (I don't think I can really call it that as my youngest is now 6 lol) and I like the colours. I do love my long legs but I can only buy clothing from certain shops as they are never long enough! x

  2. I love that outfit choice. I wish I had the body to carry it off. I am probably more towards the 'just fallen out of bed' category (although I do have a wash and put a brush through my hair first) and I am most certainly nowhere near the 'make-up mummy', I only ever bother with make-up when I have a night out now! x

  3. I've moved to an area where the mums all dress in designer clothes...and there's me in my jeans etc. I've become very aware of this and started to change how I dress. I should just be me though...comfortable!

  4. I love that outfit! I'm a farmer and admit to being a bit scruffy most of the time, but I need to be comfortable. There's no point wearing sandals or heels when you're rounding up sheep or cutting corn! I don't do a school run now but when I used to, I used to laugh at some of the mums in their "outfits", just to drop their kids off at school. One mum used to turn up with a little Louis Vuiton bag (spelling, sorry) and she was ever so posh! Other mums, like me, would turn up in jeans and jumpers and not worry about what people thought. My sister on the other hand, is a gym mummy. She likes to live like a footballer's wife and it drives me insane because I'm sure other mums look at her and think "who the hell does she think she is?" just like I used to think whenever I saw ever so posh Louis Vuiton handbag lady!!

    1. I guess being a farmer practical outfits are needed. Would be a bit daft going to school posh to change when you got in just to look good to mums hehe x

  5. Oh it takes my all getting my four kids ready for school without doing more than brush my own hair (which then looks like I've used a balloon or a rake depending on whether I've had time for a shower :-/ hehe). I managed to put a bit of foundation on today, but that's only because I woke up 5.15 am...

  6. I think you're so lucky to be tall. I'm 5'2 and have the shortest legs I've ever seen (except perhaps for my neighbour's dacshund)

I'm sure you can look elegant in anything you wear. I (on the other hand) either have trousers dragging along the floor or leggings that need a dozen folds around the knees so they're not too long.

I'd love to be a supermodel but the only way I'd get away with it is to tell the model agencies that I'm an incredibly tall 8 year old.....do you think they'd notice the wrinkles?

  8. Love the top it's fab, you're a step ahead of me by being able to coordinate an outfit! I'm behind the scenes Mummy - I do the prep and then feed tots whilst daddy runs elders to school. Even he laughs at the outfits some turn up in - one mother power dresses even though we all know she's heading home and not to an office job..?
