As soon as I heard the line up for Camp Bestival I knew that the Mini Mes would love to go. Rizzle Kicks in particular are a favourite of Minxys and with Mr Tumble, Shrek, The Gruffalo and Dick and Dom due on stage too, we knew it would be a great family event to attend.
We were lucky enough to receive weekend passes for the event and we selected Saturday to visit due to work commitments. We arrived for opening and there were no queues for the car park (£10) which was a pleasant surprise. Traffic was moving fast and we were soon parked up and on our way to the entrance. We picked up our wrist bands from the box office and made our way inside, where we got access straight away.
There was a lovely vibe about the whole festival, everyone seemed happy and relaxed right from arrival. The site was really clean with many toilets on site, alcohol hand gel to hand, caged areas to put rubbish in and bins for recycling. The aroma of different cuisines made my mouth water everything from pizza and paella to cupcakes and crisps were being sold, reasonably priced too. There really was something to suit every taste and lots for vegetarians. We picked up a Camp Bestival bag for £10 which included a 80 page colour programme containing 3 maps, the event schedule and information on the acts, a colouring book, multi-colour colouring pencil and a round the neck laminated schedule.
After a walk around to see what was on site we stopped off at the castle stage to see the Gruffalo. The huge screen made viewing easy even if you were further back, we however were to the side at the front so had a good view. The atmosphere was great, parents and children sat with picnics and snacks and others singing and dancing along. We then enjoyed seeing Mr Tumble afterwards and Dick and Dom with plenty of audience interaction before heading off to see the jousting display, circus skills and craft tent.
Jamster loved playing with the hoops, diablos, devil sticks and spinning plates in the sunshine. Minxy found the free craft tent wonderful where she made a wand, cape and mask which she wore for the rest of the day. Staff were friendly and helpful which was appreciated.
After purchasing drinks, having a look around the collection of stalls and buying bubble wands to play with we headed back to the stage to see Rizzle Kicks and the evening entertainment. Unfortunately due to adults standing on tables and chairs our view was restricted at some points but the Mini Mes had a good look by sitting on our shoulders and we could still wiggle along to the tunes. They were a little starstruck!
Camp Bestival was a lovely event and next year we will hopefully be able return for the entire weekend and to experience camping too!
