Project 366, 213/366 - Concertina caterpillars

We went to the library today for a mini beast event. I assumed it involved handling snakes, lizards, giant snails etc like an event they did last year but instead it was actually themed crafts! The Mini Mes made concertina caterpillars as one of the items.

Rice Krispies raspberry bites

After receiving a huge box of Rice Krispies in the post a few weeks ago for the BritMums #ColourMeInRK challenge (you can read about that here) we decided to use some up by baking. With it being summer and having a fridge packed with various berries we decided to add some fruit in with them too to create some sticky, sweet, crunchy squares.

Ingredients

175g Rice Krispies
300g marshmallows
40g butter
40g raspberries

Method

  • Grease an ovenproof dish/tray approx 12" x 9" in size.
  • Chop the raspberries into small chunks.
  • Melt the butter in a pan on a low heat.
  • Add the marshmallows and stir continuously until melted.
  • Add the Rice Krispies and raspberries and stir until covered with the marshmallow and butter mixture completely.
  • Place into the greased dish and allow to cool.
  • Cut into bite size pieces.
  • Scoff!

What Rice Krispies recipes do you enjoy? Have you been baking with your kids this summer?

The weather seems to have turned sour so some indoor entertainment was required. This resulted in some delicious flapjacks (recipe is here) and some Rice Krispies raspberry bites (recipe here).

Monday me #7

TheMiniMesandMe

The first week of the summer holidays seems to have flown by but despite the Mini Mes being at home pretty much 24/7 I've still managed to squeeze in a little Me Time!

If you would like to join in with Monday Me, you can read more here

My Monday Me

The Mini Mes usually go to their dad on a Wednesday but neither wanted to this week so they remained at home, however they went round on the Thursday night instead. The Mr and I enjoyed a lovely evening stroll with the poochie around the local fields. I've actually found an app, Samsung Hope Relay, which is like a walking tracker and for every mile you do they give £1 to charity. You can make your own little person for it too by taking or uploading a picture! It made me feel as though my dog walking efforts in the muddy woods and fields is not only beneficial to me in terms of my health and fitness but to others too!

I've downloaded a selection of new books for my Kindle Touch to read over the next few weeks. They were suggested by friends so I'm not sure if they are my usual taste but I like to go on recommendations.

Snowflakes in June - Emily Britton
A million little pieces - James Fray
Dirty game - Jessie Keane
What will survive - Mark Gartside
The house of women - Anne Brear
The secret diary of a single mum - Katherine Williams

Have you read any of these? What did you think?

What have you done for you this week?

Meal Planning Monday

I'm yet to weigh in after last weeks slimming world themed planner but the healthier eating combined with a lot of walking has hopefully made me lighter for the scales! We stuck to the plan well bar a bbq - we had to enjoy the sunshine while it was here.

This weeks planner has a few meals repeated from last week and a few other bits added in that are quite quick to sort. With it being the summer holidays we seem to be out and about quite a lot so anything quick and easy is great until September.

Monday - Pizzas and salad
Tuesday - Mediterranean hot pot (slow cooker)
Wednesday - Fish with parsley sauce and veg
Thursday - Cajun Sausages

I'm leaving Friday, Saturday and Sunday free as it's our child free weekend and we may be heading to Drayton Manor for a friends birthday (depending upon the weather). What are you scoffing this week? You can head over to At Home With Mrs M to link up or to view more planners.

Project 366, 211/366 - Playdoh

We enjoyed quite a lazy day in today after such a hectic week. The Mini Mes played in the garden for some of the day with their new bubble wands and then settled down at the table with some Playdoh. I purchased a machine and 12 tubs in the sale after Christmas and kept them hidden away in my wardrobe specifically for the summer holiday!

My week that was...

The first week of the summer holidays has flown by and we have had such a lovely time and thoroughly made the most of the sunshine!

Monday
The sun came out and so did the pool and garden toys. We spent the majority of the day playing in the garden and just soaking up the beautiful weather. After dinner we headed to the country park for a lovely evening playing too.

Tuesday
We headed to the shops first thing to stock up on bbq food and to the library to get some books for the summer reading challenge. The afternoon was spent playing in the garden again and in the evening my parents came over to enjoy dinner alfresco.

Wednesday
There was a free science day at our local leisure centre so we went to that in the morning where the mini mes had fun making rockets and doing other fun activities before a picnic lunch. In the afternoon we made egg box bugs and went to another event at the library where the kids got to make slime followed by a bike ride.

Thursday
The kids put on a mini magic show for me which was lovely to see. In the afternoon we watched a movie before they went to their dads house for the night.

Friday
We took the bikes to the reservoir and the mini mes rode the 2.5 miles around while I jogged walked along. In the evening we went out for a family meal and enjoyed the beer garden and the sunshine.

Saturday
We went to Camp Bestival and got to see Shrek, Dick and Dom, Mr Tumble, The Gruffalo, Rizzle Kicks and many more acts. The weather was fantastic and the Mr ended up looking like a lobster! We stopped off for a burger king on the way home which was a nice change, hadn't had one in ages.

Sunday
Quite a chilled day. The kids played with a load of new playdoh and with their new bubble wands in the garden while the Mr and I did some housework and watched the Olympics.

That was my week that was. What have you done over the past 7 days?

Project 366, 210/366 - Camp Bestival

We were at Camp Bestival today at the beautiful Lulworth Castle in Dorset. I'm so pleased that the weather remained warm as it really helped to make the day superb. We enjoyed some performances on stage from Mr Tumble, Dick and Dom, The Gruffalo, Shrek and Minxy's favourite, Rizzle Kicks. Here is Jamster in his cape and mask he made at the free craft tent.

Project 366, 209/366 - Bike riding

We enjoyed a love bike ride around the reservoir today. The views are stunning as you go around and there is a lovely area where you ride through woodland and we usually stop for tree climbing. Unfortunately the water was too high around the trees and we weren't able to today.

Project 366, 208/366 - Sports fun

We received some T-shirts for taking part in Samsung Mobiles Warm Up and Win competition today.... perhaps a little on the large side as you can see!

All you need to do is record a 5 second video and you can win prizes so we thought we would give it a go. Here is our entry:

Reasons to be happy

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

You make me smile
You're not from round here

I seem to be a lot more positive since I started joining in with link ups about happiness! The little things I took for granted previously now seem to have value and I appreciate them far more. Long may that continue!

My reasons to smile this week...

Summer Holidays
I am officially off work until September and I've been enjoying some great fun with the mini mes. It's only day four and we have already been on two bikes, enjoyed a magic show (you can see that here), spent two mornings in the paddling pool , had a picnic, had a bbq, been to two science events, spent an evening at the park, signed up for the book challenge at the library, made egg box bugs (that's here) and lots more. Love it.

Sunshine
Doesn't a little bit of sunshine lift your mood?! When I wake and see he sun pouring in it automatically makes me smile and makes getting out of bed so much easier!

Weight Loss
It's going well! Despite the odd ice cream due to the warm weather I'm gradually losing weight and clothes are feeling looser - yay!

What do you have to smile about this week?

Magical Mini Mes

Although the Mini Mes aren't too keen on performing infront of large crowds they often ask me to sit and watch their dancing, singing, and magic shows at home!

Today they decided to make a mini show for me and I thought I would record it! It's only just over a minute so please take a peek, they would love to read your comments!

Do your kids like to perform? What shows do they perform for you?

Project 366, 207/366 - Science

We went to a free science event at our local leisure centre today and one of the activities involved bubbles! The idea was to make a square bubble in the centre of a shape and both of the mini mes managed to achieve it. We spent a few hours making rockets, talking about energy and hydraulics and having fun in an educational way.

Mini Mess #3

TheMiniMesandMe

Mini Mess is a weekly Wednesday link up where you can share all the fun you have had with kids involving mess! That could be cakes and bakes, paddling pool fun, fun with sand and mud or some lovely crafts. I hope you will add your links below to inspire other parents on how to keep the kids happy and busy this summer.

Bug egg box craft

I guess you could call this up-cycling or junk craft as it's creating little masterpieces out of your rubbish. It was however fun and kept the kids in the shades for a little while. It's inexpensive which is always a bonus too!

What you need

Egg boxes
Pipe cleaners
Pens/Paint
Googly eyes
Glue

I don't think I need to write a method as the pictures are self explanatory really. You just use the boxes as bodies, use the pipe cleaners as legs by threading them through the boxes and create some super cute little bugs!

We made a caterpillar and ant. Any name suggestions?

You can link up your own Mini Mess below!

If you fancy grabbing the badge highlight and press CTRL and C then paste as usual into your own post. <a href="http://www.theminimesandme.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj600/TheMiniMesandMe/pizap.jpg" alt="TheMiniMesandMe" width="90" height="110" /></a>

The Gallery

This weeks photography theme from Sticky Fingers is Street Phototgraphy, which is basically any pictures of public place. I captured this photo Monday during a trip to the local country park. I thought how the sun shone through the trees while the Mini Mes played was quite captivating.

Going through my photo archives I also found these pictures that I've taken.
