One small click, one big change!

The laptop has (unfortunately) become my best friend over the past few years. I watch movies with it, I eat with it and I probably see more of it than I do real people! It even joins me in bed at times much to the Mr's disapproval. Working from home this is probably the case for many others in today's tech crazy world! It always seems to be attached and I find it hard to pull myself away at times. However when I do get to escape for a moment I like to use the Ecobutton now so I know I'm at least doing my bit for the environment - it is an easy to use USB device that puts computers into a low energy mode to save electricity.

It also helps to reduce your energy bills which is perfect for those that use their laptops a lot; like me.
One push and your computer shuts down all functions that draw power so they run on less energy than your normal standby mode. Even less than your screensaver! It's really useful as it lowers your ecological footprint by saving up to 135 kilos of carbon dioxide each year while saving you money with no effort at all. All you have to do to get back to work or play is press a button. Simple!

Before I discovered this handy product I would often shut the laptop and see the lights flashing away, calling me, not thinking about the energy it was still using but I've become a lot more conscientious now that I know what a big difference such a little device can make. The Mr (the main bill payer) is also pleased as it has cut his costs. Bonus.

Saving energy is beneficial for the environment and SSE help to support their customers when it comes to living eco-friendly lifestyles by providing tips and products for every day use.
Today, idle PC’s waste over 1 million tonnes of CO2 every year in the UK but you can do your bit to help reduce this figure with an Ecobutton.

You can find out more about the Eco Button on the SSE Facebook page.

Have you got an Ecobutton yet?

  2. This is a brilliant idea, I need to find out more - with several devices on at the same time in our house it could be essential.
