Finding Love as a Single Parent

There are many reasons why people end up as single parents, from relationship breakdowns to the death of a partner. Life can be unpredictable sometimes, but just because you’ve one or more kids doesn’t mean you can’t pursue a romantic relationship. So, if you’re looking for that special someone and are ready for a new start, check out these useful tips.

Sign up to a dating website
Online dating is bang on trend these days with people from all walks of life logging on to find love. Dating websites are plentiful and with a wealth of profiles to browse you’re sure to find someone who piques your interest. Not good at writing about yourself or hate the thought of describing your best bits in the hope of a date? Then why not get a friend to do it for you? Sites like mysinglefriend.com allow a buddy to set up your profile adding a unique twist to your dating
experience. Hey, they might even find you a future love match.

Get out and about
If you’re trying to look after kids alone whilst simultaneously holding down a job, socialising might be far from your mind. It’s not easy to find that work/life balance especially with little ones in tow, but it’s good to let your hair down once in a while. Going out could do you the world of good, so book a babysitter well in advance, spruce yourself up and get out and about. Be friendly, sociable and don’t be afraid to be a little flirty if someone attractive comes your way – you never know where it might lead. Been a while since you puffed your chest or fluttered your lashes? Then brush up on your pulling skills.

Take up a new hobby
As a lone parent you’ll know that kids tend to come first. They take up most of your time and need constant love and attention but if you fancy a break from nappies, hot milk and nursery rhymes a new hobby could be right up your street. Sure, you’re busy but what’s an hour out of your week to play a game of hockey or attend an art class? Take up something you love and you might meet someone with similar interests. It’s worth a try, right?

Go on a blind date
Has your friend got a friend who she/he thinks will be perfect for you? Have you been ignoring their continuous requests for the two of you to meet? If so, why not have a change of heart and arrange a blind date? Set a time, choose a venue and let the rest of the rendezvous speak for itself. Good or bad, at least you’re back out on the dating scene and are making an effort to find someone new and that deserves a cheers!

Finding love as a single parent might seem like a challenging task but keep your options open and you could be pleasantly surprised.

  1. When I was a single parent I was very against finding love, quite happy on my own. However love doesn't always listen and can creep up on you when you least expect! I have been happily married to my antenatal group friend's brother for nearly 16 years now :)
