Comfort Fit - Choosing the Best Bed

An uncomfortable mattress or an old, saggy bed frame can be the reason you're not sleeping properly anymore. Maybe your back hurts, maybe you're a bit grumpier than usual, or perhaps you're tossing and turning when you used to be a good sleeper. If you haven't replaced your bed in a few years, that could be the problem!

There are so many different styles of beds available at Tesco and other retailers, as well as matters, that sometimes you just don’t where to start with the decision making. Below are a few pointers in the right direction.

Which size?
If you wake up in the night feeling cramped, perhaps a bigger bed is the key.  A standard double bed can be restrictive if you're sharing, whereas a king size will more than likely give you the space you
need. When you buy a new mattress, often you should buy the base at the same location, as they'll be designed to work well together.

Which mattress?
Work out whether you prefer hard, medium or soft beds before you start shopping. Make sure you try them in the shop: that's the best part of bed shopping! It makes sense to invest in a good mattress. They can last for years, and a mattress protector can help it last for many more. There are several different types to choose from:

  • Open spring
  • Pocket spring
  • Memory foam
  • Hypoallergenic
  • And many more.

The decision you make here will be down to personal taste and budget, but make sure you do lots of research to ensure you get the most for your money!

Which base?
Most mattresses are sold together with a choice of bed base.

  • Divans are very popular, as their box-base allows for storage inside, and mobility from wheels.
  • Slatted bases come in conjunction with bedsteads. Bedsteads are can be stylish, and you can even find antique bedframes.
  • Headboards are optional, and they can be found in many different styles, as a prominent feature of the room or even as part of the decor. Upholstered or padded headboards can add to the comfort of your bed.

With a bit of research and an understanding of what you're looking for in a bed, your new purchase could be the key to that excellent night's sleep you've been missing!
