My Bathroom Makeover

The fact that I've wanted a new bathroom for what feels like forever is certainly no secret. I even wrote a poem about how desperate I was to get rid of the horrendous wallpaper and tatty old suite last year! It was so uninviting and I really wanted somewhere I could escape and relax in comfort and style. Thankfully, 2014 was the year and not only did I get a new bathroom, I had the house fully insulated, rewired, and a new kitchen installed. I was a little bit spoilt when it came to renovating our home.

I opted for a minimalistic look with white paint on the freshly plastered walls and ceiling, a white suite and white tiles. It makes the room look bright and fresh but enables me to add my own accessories to personalise it. Being a blank canvas it means if I fancy a change I can just alter the
colour of the towels and mats for a whole new look with little money spent which is great. I think the white also makes quite a small space appear a lot larger than it is.

We had a new shower installed which is a little more Eco friendly in the way I can select how the water is heated. I'm quite keen on doing my bit for the environment, as and when I can, and it's the little things like this that can help to make a big difference in the long run. I'd love a wet room or one of those proper shower enclosures but we will be moving in the next year or so to somewhere bigger, fingers crossed!

The little soap tray is also useful for hanging my scrunchies and shower gels on.

Perhaps I shouldn't have let the Mini Mes pick the shower curtain though!

We had part of the wall knocked back to make room for an extra long bath which enables me to fully submerge my legs; I no longer have to bend my knees while laying in the tub which is amazing. All 6ft of me can be covered in my favourite Lush bath bombs and plenty of bubbles! It really is the little things like this that have made such a difference to my bathing experience. The taps have even been moved to the other end too so I don't sit with the shower dripping on me or my book which is definitely appreciated. I also have an extra little shelf so I can have my beauty essentials nearby.

We had an Eco toilet fitted and I purchased a glittery toilet seat to match my new accessories. It's a lot more curved than the previous one, as is the sink. I really like the simple yet compact design.

The flooring is a pale grey/silver with little splashes of blue and white. We had bare floorboards previously so this is more comfortable to walk on, keeps the room warmer and it is easier to clean. There are many bonuses to it.

All I need to do now is add some wall stickers and a mirror and the room is pretty much complete!
A heated towel rail is also on the 'to buy' list next.

  24. I would love a new bathroom suite but funds are low so we are comprimising and as soon as we can afford it, my partner, plasterer by trade, is having a go at using 'Venetian Plaster' throughout the bathroom. It has a lovely finish that looks like marble when its dry. My bathroom is tiny and dark so going for a charcoal grey colour (as its a myth that making it a lighter colour will make it look brighter if the room is in total shade), with petrol blue towels. I spotted some in Dunelm. Going to have candles also (Yankee of course) to give it further light and colour. Can't wait, but have too as the kitchen is the first DIY nightmare that we have started to attack! Love how you kept it simple as it looks really cheery and clean! xxx

  26. It's true-small improvements make big difference! You've made the right choice picking white tiles, as you can change the feel of the room as often as you'd like. Thank you for sharing, you've done a great job!
