Two Tone Star Biscuits - Mini Makes

It was a bit of a wet and wild weekend with plenty of thunder storms across the country so we decided to stay snug indoors and have fun as a family, baking. While I was busy making moist Madeira cake and crispy baguettes with Jamster, Minxy made a collection of treats by herself including American style muffins and these delicious chocolate biscuits.
They are really simple to create but the finish is rather pretty!

Two Tone Star Biscuits

Ingredients
(makes 16)

50g butter
75g caster sugar
1 egg yolk
145g plain flour
30g chocolate

Method
  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and line a large tray with baking paper
  • Melt the chocolate in a pan on a low heat and set to one side to cool slightly
  • Mix together the egg yolk, butter and sugar in a bowl until smooth
  • Sift in the flour and knead to form a dough then divide it equally into two
  • Pour the melted chocolate into one half of the dough and mix until it is evenly coated
  • Roll out both of the doughs on a floured surface to around 4mm in thickness and use a cutter to create your biscuits (we chose stars on this occasion)
  • Using a smaller identical cutter remove the centres of each biscuit and swap them over with the opposite dough's to make the two tone look
  • Bake for 10 minutes (until they just begin to golden) and remove from the oven
  • Scoff!
