As a new year fast approaches we've been thinking about the future as a family and we've decided a little bit more space, in the form of a larger home, would be ideal for 2016. Bigger bedrooms for the Mini Mes with more storage for their toys and clothes, maybe a few ensuite bathrooms (I know they will hog the current ones very soon come day or night) and an office where I can work in comfort.
The planning is a very big part of the process and the Home Movers Hubt from Moneysupermarket is a great help when it comes to getting organised and saving money. It's designed to take away the stress of moving and it makes things simple to understand.
The hub is split into different sections and it's incredibly easy to navigate. I've been looking specifically at the 'mortgage' and 'cost of moving' calculators to discover what we can borrow and the
approximate fees for finding a new house - it's useful for first time buyers or those already on the ladder. There is also a 'home bills checker' to price compare insurance, energy and broadband bills to see if and where you can cut costs to save pennies in preparation for the move or to find the best options to pick when moving to a new property. This is a great resource, along with the various tips and articles available for advice, although not one we currently require as we have money saved away for a deposit.
This asks about the location of the property that you're hoping to purchase, the property value, whether or not your using a solicitor, if you will be relying up a lenders valuation or arranging a survey, how much you're selling your current property for and how many bedrooms it has. It then provides a breakdown of the estimated fees your move will cost and it only takes a few moments to compete.
By filling in the property value, mortgage term, mortgage value and interest rate details you can reveal the approximate monthly repayments to check that it's affordable for you.
Considering I've not moved home in several years I found this easily accessible on both my mobile phone and laptop and a quick way to discover rough costs to refresh my mind on whats expected in terms of fees. I've also saved the results as an image so I can refer back to them when with a solicitor or estate agent in just a few weeks time.
It presents the information clearly and is an easy and free service to try.

I've lost count the number of first-time buyers I've known, who have been caught out by all of the extra fees and expenses involved. If you haven't bought or sold in several years, you can easily forget all the extras involved too.
