Christmas Gift Giveaway - Day 26

WIN a GoldieBlox Play Set

Children's toys are regularly split both in store and online into pink and blue for the different sexes, but GoldieBlox tries to eliminate this gender separation and introduces girls to engineering concepts through play.

The CEO Debbie Sterling, a 32 year old engineer herself, spotted the gender discrepancy while studying at university and created the toy range to help tackle the gender gap in technology, science, maths etc. Minxy already enjoys these subjects thankfully and she was very pleased to be sent a kit to try out herself - she likes design and creativity too which the set covers well.

All of the kits are very interactive and include construction items and a book which encourages children to build along with the narrative. There are extra examples within the book which you can give a go too or your child can invent their own, it's completely up to them.

The books are easy to follow and feature GoldieBlox, a young inventor, who solves problems by making machines. This one has rhyming text which made it even more fun to read.

GoldieBlox and the Spinning Machine

This set includes|:
1 book
1 pegboard
10 axles
5 blocks
1 ribbon
1 crank
5 washers
5 wheels
5 characters
16 design ideas

I sat back and let Minxy read and construct by herself, although Jamster was very happy to be involved and sat close by, and she seemed to really enjoy it. It was very different to any other toy she had played with before and she liked this as it really kept her interested. Once she had created the idea provided in the story and several of the others she started to think about her own. It certainly helped to get her own wheels turning and inspired her to make her own belt drive devices. I was really pleased with this and I think the Mr was too as a HGV Technician.

The set which is aimed at children aged 4 years and over is great quality and all of the pieces slot together well to make sturdy machines. No batteries are required and all of the setting up can be completed by the kids, no adult help is required.
The unusual characters which include a Basset Hound, a Dolphin Ballerina, a cat, a bear and a sloth can also be played with seperately which is lovely too.

I have a feeling a few of the other sets will be on her list for Santa this year!
