The picnic weather approaches so save a trip to the bakery by making your own sausage rolls at home! These are quick and so simple to make that you will wonder why you haven't made them before.
Ingredients
500g Jus-Rol puff pastry
8 thick sausages
Method
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
- Carefully slice down the length of each sausage and remove the skin trying to maintain the shape of each in the process.
- Cook the sausages in an ovenproof dish for 10 minutes and then remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly.
- Divide your puff pastry block into 8 equal pieces and roll each out to around 7" in length and width.
- Place a sausage at the end of each puff pastry square and roll it over so that the pastry folds around it tightly. Allow it to overlap by approx 2" then pinch to seal and trim off any excess.
- Return to the ovenproof dish, bake for 15 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and risen.
- Scoff!
Have you made sausage rolls recently?
I've never thought to make my own sausage rolls before but these look so easy and I often can't stand the crap meat that is put in them at bakeries so this a great way to control that! I think I will give it ago this weekend xx
ReplyDeleteOooh! These look great! Our little ones love sausage rolls and these would be a perfect garden picnic treat!
ReplyDeleteMark makes them every now and then but always from scratch and it takes ages... I like your simple recipe
ReplyDeleteI love homemade sausage rolls. I always buy premade pastry but get sausage meat from the butchers mix it with some herbs and sweet chilli sauce and use that inside. I often struggle to get my pastry to stay closed so next time I'll try your wrapping around the sausage instead of my usual pinching.
ReplyDeleteOoo yummy - this is something I've been meaning to make the children for their lunchboxes for ages!
ReplyDeleteI have never tried - might give it a go though!
