Marley Spoon Review

When it comes to meal planning each week I can often feel a little bit lost. The same handful of dinners seem to be stuck on replay and I'm concerned exciting new dishes might not impress the family! When I was approached to try Marley Spoon, a service where chefs design the menu then deliver the recipes and ingredients directly to your door, I was eager to give it a go. The food looked far too tempting to resist and it took the hassle away from a trip to the supermarket.

Ordering is so simple. You select the size package you require from 1, 2 or 3 meals and the number of people you need meals for from 2, 4, 6 or 8. You enter your postcode and email, your address and preferred delivery date followed by your payment information then your package will arrive between 9am and 5pm on your chosen day. You can even choose which specific recipes you would like to receive and easily eliminate those that don't appeal to your taste.

We selected a 3 meal menu for 2 people and the box arrived really well insulted and chilled so even if I wasn't home when the courier came the goods would remain cool for as long as 30 hours. Each meal was individually packaged in brown paper bags which was great for storage and everything looked unbelievably fresh. I was very pleased with the quality of the produce and the A4 sized recipe cards were in colour and well detailed making it easy to cook and serve the dishes at home.

Everything is included bar cupboard essentials like salt, pepper etc.

I chose sun dried tomato and feta lamb burger with Greek salad, maple glazed pork, sweet potato mash and spring greens and finally sticky ginger salmon with sesame rice and bok choi for our meals and they were thoroughly enjoyable, to the extent that I'm planning to recreate some of them again at home soon for the Mini Mes too as I know they will love them. Each was ready within 30-45 minutes which is about the normal time I would spend in the kitchen every evening and I found them very straight forward to prepare and make. The flavours were amazing!

  •  The salmon with the chilli marinade was a lovely combination although it needed cooking a bit longer than stated (it would've been served raw in the centre otherwise).
  •  The pork was really moist and the glaze was delicious. I don't generally eat sweet potatoes but this opened my eyes to new possibilities as they were really filling and far less heavy than carbs we currently eat.
  •  The lamb burgers in particular were a generous sized portion and probably my favourite out of the three meals sent. I appreciated the fact that even the bread for them to go in was included and these will be on a meal planner of my own very soon!

You can skip or pause a delivery at any time for your convenience, for example if you're on holiday, which is really useful to know and you can receive your delivery on a Wednesday or Friday, whichever you prefer. I would highly recommend this service if you fancy something a little bit different or need some cooking inspiration. In terms of pricing it works out at around £5.50 per person, per dish.

  1. Looks wonderful but pretty expensive, I'm certain it would be a once a week treat in our house, may still take a look though, ty

  2. This looks like such a nice idea. It could definitely be a nice treat. I would definitely have to look at options, because I am so picky that it's hard for me to do stuff like this.

  3. This is awesome! I love boxes like this, it's just the expense that aways stops me from ordering. I've used 2 services, and they're SO convenient, but too rich for my wallet!

  4. Oh I need this in my life! Unfortunately, I don't think that they are in my area. What a great concept, though.

  13. This does look lovely but is quite expensive compared to what I normally budget per meal

  14. I won something similar recently, I found the recipes really time consuming compared to what I would normally make

  15. It's a nice idea but too expensive to do regularly although it'd be an interesting alternative to a takeaway.
