    Normally they are happy to play on Nintendo DS, but they have to have earphones on and are restricted to how long they can use them at a time. When they are not on we do a game based on numberplates, but one son loves trucks and can name most of them (and model!!) - the other likes buses/coaches and again can name them!!!!
    The youngest daughter just likes to listen to music

  13. Well we play a game called National Express haha we seperate into teams and at the end of our journey whoever has spotted the most national expresses first wins!

  39. We love a good audio book as they are something the whole family can enjoy and can induce a bit of quiet in the back whilst they listen intently. There are so many to choose from and once finished we can all talk about our favourite bits.

We usually have our I-spy book of travelling by Michelin (these are fab books awarding you points for spying various landmarks or certain vehicles), and we play various games such as The Number plate game, where you make sentences out of the letters on the car in fronts number plate, most inventive sentence wins!

  57. much easier now my children are late teens but when they were little endless games of i spy or spotting certain makes of cars that were not common place on the road at the time (for example vokeswagon beetles) now on long journeys they either watch a dvd (with headphones) as we have the dvd car mounts or listen to their music or read a book, travelling with teens is great no silly squabbling or constant " are we there yet mum" or "how long now mum" the normal that kids do i do not miss that, journeys are peaceful and bliss now.

  76. We play looking for various objects as we drive along i.e. post boxes, red cars, vans with ladders etc. Each person thinks of one item to search for and gains points when they see them. It is a bit like bingo!

    If in the countryside it's spot the animals to win points or if in town we pick a vehicle before we set of for instance a Mini and gain points for each one spotted. Alternatively there's always the good old Eye Spy.

  115. For our 10 month old it's a massive shopping bag filled to the brim with toys,cars,musical instruments,books and anything that makes a noise!! He is a bad passenger and generally screams most the journey. My 3 year old it's books about cars and his tablets and ours. Then we take colouring books and bags of toys!! We take a long journey once a month to my home town and its always very eventful! Thank you ☺️
