Top 5 Little-Known Destinations

We all know some of the best destinations are off the beaten path, and the journey there is often more entertaining as well. Sometimes the best things are the ones we’ve been able to keep secret - the destinations that are not crowded with tourists and show an authentic, untouched piece of history or culture. Here are a few of the best destinations around the world that you may not hear a lot about, but hold so much beauty that they need to be on your travel bucket list.

Psychedelic Salt Mines in Yekaterinburg, Russia

There are some wonders of the world that are just too beautiful to believe they occurred naturally. That’s the case for the gorgeous patterns of the Psychedelic Salt Mines. This abandoned area is only available to the public by a special Russian government permit, which may be why this destination is little-traveled. If you’re unable to score a pass to see this stunning piece of nature, there’s still so much to do in Yekaterinburg. Stop by the Beatles Monument to get a taste of the impact this band had on the culture of Russia, or check out one of the most interesting art installations you’ll ever see at the Keyboard Monument. This concrete recreation of a computer keyboard is a piece of work you’ll never forget.

Crooked Forest in Szczecin, Poland

Another unique and little-known destination, the Crooked Forest in Poland is something out of a horror novel. The trees in this forest are, as I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, crooked. They have grown in a J-shape, giving them an eerie, unnatural look. Many speculate on the mystery of these trees and just how they formed into this unique shape, but no answers have been proven to be true. Your guess is as good as ours, whether it’s as practical as weather or gravity, or as outlandish as alien activity.

Apostle Islands in Wisconsin, USA

The Apostle Islands are a collection of islands off the coast of northern Wisconsin. What makes them unique and unlike any other Great Lake islands is the stunning caves carved into the cliffs by the water over the years. One of the most incredible of these islands are Devils Island, where you can kayak in and out of the caves, or spend a peaceful day exploring the lighthouse. During your visit, beware of the evil spirit that is said to reside here, inspiring the island’s name.

Yoho National Park in British Columbia, Canada

If you’re looking for some of the best hiking, mountain biking, or cross country skiing in Canada, there’s no need to visit a tourist-filled destination like Banff. You can find all you need and more in Yoho National Park. If you’re looking for a hike with a view, Wapta Falls is where you can find the most natural beauty in this stunning, secluded area. If you’re looking for Calgary homes for sale, don’t worry. This destination is just over the border of Alberta so you can still enjoy the perks of that area - Banff included.

Marieta Islands in Nayarit, Mexico

If hiking and camping isn’t your style and you’re looking for more of a beachy getaway, the Marieta Islands in Mexico may be the perfect combination of nature and relaxation. The highlight of this amazing destination is its hidden beach, marine life, and crystal-clear water.

Do you have somewhere special to add to the list?
