Getting out for activities and day trips, how mobility aids can make it easier

Even with lockdown still affecting many areas, getting out and about is all the more important and the benefits of fresh air and a change of scene can really help lift the mood. There are many activities and day trips available, even with the limited facilities in some areas, and the countryside has many options for quiet escapes or opportunities for exploring and exercise.

If you have any type of disability, or you are recuperating from an injury, sometimes it’s not quite as easy to get out and about and it can feel quite isolating when you need equipment and transport to get out of the house. The thought of using mobility aids of any kind is not something you generally search for when you are perfectly fit and healthy, but if there are mobility concerns for some family members, then it’s a good idea to look at the many options available, as they really can help.

It’s not always about the large pieces of equipment, like a mobility scooter or a wheelchair, sometimes it’s the simple travel accessories that make the trip out easier, more comfortable and ultimately safer. Daily Living Aids refer to the tools, gadgets and aids that can be used either in the home, garden, or when travelling.

Here are a few examples of disability aids that can help you make the most of getting out and about this summer:

Car travel aids are a very popular category and there are many options for making the journey in the car, or in any other vehicle, safer and more comfortable. A soft transfer cushion can really help those of you who find it difficult to swivel on the seat to leave the vehicle after driving.

This cushion features a soft, padded, flexible turning disc ideal for use on car seats, chairs and beds - so it's great not only in the car, but also within the home itself. The soft transfer cushion works by allowing the easy rotation of the user, when the surface of the cushion swivels on its base, therefore allowing easier alighting or leaving of the vehicle.

It is a soft feeling cushion that can remain in place for the whole of the journey, providing a comfortable sitting position throughout.

A 5 Function Massage Cushion with Heat is ideal for relief and is equally useful in the car as it is placed upon any seat or bed.

This massage chair delivers a high quality relaxing massage function to stimulate and relieve major muscle groups, including the lumbar region of the spine (lower back) the spine, neck and shoulders.

The heated seat cover has been designed with 5 massage motors and 3 speeds of intensity to relieve aches and pains in the upper and lower back, hips and thighs.

It’s an incredibly versatile device. The Heated Back and Seat Massager sits on top of an existing car seat thanks to the car adapter which is easy to use to power the cushion.

The Car Support Handle is an innovative and compact device that has been readily adopted for use by thousands of people as it give that little bit of additional balance and support when entering or leaving the seating position in the car.

It is very quick to fit and when in place it is an extremely strong and reliable mobility aid that has been specially designed to aid users when rising from a vehicle.

The Car Support Handle fits into the door bracket on the car door frame, where it will then remain for as long as it is needed as an excellent supporting handle that protrudes at an ideal height to assist the user in sitting or standing.

To ensure user comfort it boasts a soft, comfortable, slip-resistant handle. The Car Support Handle can also double up as an emergency tool with built in seat belt cutter and hammer feature to break glass in the case of emergency.

All in all, a great idea and low cost investment for your future driving safety comfort and enjoyment.

Fleece seat belt pads provide protection from the seat belt cutting and rubbing the shoulder. The velcro opening enables quick and easy fitting, then the pad slides into the required position.

Seat belt discomfort actually affects thousands of people across the UK, as the standard fitting and position of the seatbelt does not allow for enough customisation to allow for a comfortable fit. This leads to the passenger having to sometimes hold the belt away from where it’s biting in or causing uncomfortable friction.
