Back to Basics

No TV and remote to argue over who watches what.
No games consoles to fight about which character they want to be
No board games to stress about who goes first and which colour counter they wish to control.

Going back to basics brings the Mini Mes together.

They helped each other climb the frame.
They played in the sand pit and dug holes.
They took it in turns to push the other on the swing.

I sat in a chair by the window and watched for what felt like a wonderful eternity.

I witnessed them laughing, having fun and sharing.
Simply enjoying the company of one another.

They didn't need me as referee.
They were playing freely and naturally in the great outdoors.

“We are never more fully alive, more completely ourselves, or more deeply engrossed in anything than when we are playing.”

  1. I am very jealous of that amazing play frame in your garden!

  2. I love getting outdoors - so good for the soul! I feel sad listening to my neighbours' kids stuck inside all weekend playing on their PlayStation. There's a huge park at the end of the street and we have a lovely woodland area where we are too, perfect for exploring. "When I was a kid..." is my phrase at the moment! I used to always be outside. I wish we had a bigger garden with more grass so we could get more equipment. It's all concrete so not very "kid friendly"! Enjoy the sunshine when it's here. x

  4. I used to be outdoor all the time when I was smaller, didn't have all those devices and I think I was happy kid :) But when I look at my little half brother he seems to live for tablet and phone games!

  7. My boys played lovely with Lego at the weekend when they had nothing else to play with. Seriously thinking of getting rid of half their toys as they have so much they don't know where to start x

  9. Wow, their own mini-playground! I wish that we have our own house with garden by the time A. grows up... Thankfully he's still small, and I hope to teach him to play outdoors whenever he can - so far he doesn't even show much interest in noisy, flashy musical toys but prefers basic, simple things, so maybe we can keep it up :)

  15. Your children look like they are having a great time. We often turn off all electrical stuff (except my phone obvs) and chuck the children into the garden. They run around quite happily until they are exhausted, it is so lovely to watch.

  39. Nothing better than going back to basics - children who visit us just love being outside - on the trampoline, in the play area or with the animals ... and mine are so much less argumentative when outside ... or maybe I just don't hear them!!

  44. Is it a novelty because the weather is suddenly better or are you away at relatives? I only ask, as if it is your own garden, hopefully there's lots more of this to come, as it is planned to be 18 degrees this weekend :-)
We are fingers crossed going to get a new garden soon - it would be a dream come true to be able to get something like that. xxx
