5 Tips For Getting Fit

I'm a little bit of a yo-yo when it comes to dieting and I've mentioned my weight loss struggles before, but since turning 30, suffering with gallstones and aiming to complete the Race For Life, I've been putting a lot more effort in and I've learnt a thing or two along the way.

These tips may help you with shredding the pounds and becoming more healthy as well...

  • Completing your exercise first thing in the morning gets it out of the way for the day. Until recently I used to say I didn't have time to workout frequently but by simply setting your alarm that little bit earlier you can schedule a jog, run, gym session or DVD before your day really begins. This also means in the evening, when you're often tired after work and looking after your family, you don't need to worry about getting into your sportswear and you can relax before bed. Try to use the stairs instead of lifts and walk instead of taking the car - little things soon add up.
  • Drinking water is vital and you should aim to have at least 8 glasses a day. Not only does it keep you hydrated but it improves your skin and flushes away toxins. Measuring out your drinks and popping it in the fridge the evening before will keep it chilled and ensure you consume the right amount.
  • If you completely deprive yourself of your favourite nibbles and the odd snack you're far more likely to have a big binge session later down the line which is a lot worse. Either allow yourself a small treat each day or have a set day each week that you can look forward to when you indulge a little. Alternatively reward yourself in other ways for example with a new outfit or spa day when you reach certain goals.
  • There will be times when you need a helping hand so joining clubs can be really beneficial. You can meet people in a similar situation to you and build friendships in the process. On a day to day basis try the Kiqplan app. It's like a nutritionist and personal trainer in one and will help to motivate you whatever the time or situation. It's great for keeping track of your progress too.
  • Finally, be honest. With yourself and with others. If you've had a bad day and had a few too many calories, had a sneaky takeaway as you don't fancy cooking or a few alcoholic beverages with friends don't beat yourself up about it or quit. You can make it up over the course of the week or exercise a little more to balance it out. Keep a record of what you're doing and measure food and drink out when necessary so you can be as accurate as possible - it will all help you get to exactly where you want to be.

  1. I just had baby number 3 last sunday so i am aware there's some baby weight to lose. I swear by green tea, it definitely helps me keep the weight off - i'll reach for it rather than a fizzy drink.

  2. Completing your exercise early in the morning is a great idea! Get it out of the way and then it's not a guilty weight on your mind all day. I also find monitoring serving portion sizes helps too! x
