Favourite Outdoor Spaces #ParkMoments

I live in quite a small rural town with plenty of outdoor space to enjoy, and in particular we love a trip to Daventry Country Park - there is so much to see and do all in one place for free!

It's just around the corner from our home and it is most definitely one of our favourite places to spend time locally having fun, regardless of the season. It was therefore my first thought when nominating a location for the Fields in Trust awards.

I've made many memories at this specific park during my own childhood but it's a pleasure to take the Mini Mes regularly now to stroll, play and explore too. The beautiful golden colours of autumn, giant puddles and mud are certainly an attraction for the Mini Mes at the moment!

The beautiful reservoir is a nice distance for a dog walk (just over 2 miles) although over the years I've pushed the children in prams, assisted them on scooters or climbing trees and taught them to ride their bikes around it. We've had some real adventures there and we've also tried geocaching  more recently which is quickly becoming a hobby of ours.

It's really nice to see the surroundings change and watch my family grow at the same time.

The play equipment consists of several slides, swings, rope tunnels, climbing apparatus and lots more, all with a wood chip flooring to prevent injury. Something that is really useful in a parent's eyes. Dogs aren't permitted in this particular section so you can let the kids run freely while you have a few minutes to sit at one of the benches. I really like to be involved however and we often play 'Gruffalo' which consists of me chasing them like a wild beast while they screech with excitement!

The fitness area enables you to exercise without pricey gym memberships and it is a great way to burn off extra energy or calories for adults and kids alike. This field is filled with inflatables and a big screen to display movies come the summer months which provides even more entertainment.

On colder days we like to stop at the cafe for warm drinks or chips but during the warmer weather we pick up seeds to feed the birds, pack a picnic and buy ice creams to enjoy. It's lovely to have that on site, along with toilets, as it extends the experience really nicely to make it a frugal morning or afternoon out.

How to vote
I've nominated Daventry Country Park but if you would like to nominate your local play area go to the Fields in Trust website and complete the form, it only takes a few seconds.
Entries end at 5pm Wednesday 4th November 2015.

The shortlisted locations can then be voted for by the public until 25th November 2015.
