5 Top Tips For Updating Your Digital Branding

With April and May being the perfect time for a little spring clean it's also the ideal time to update your online space, whether that's in the form of a blog or business page, and provide it with a fresh new look. Afterall image, alongside content, is so important when it comes to keeping your audience interested and returning for more.

Making a good first impression is vital. If you had a job interview you would more than likely turn up looking smart and being organised to have the best shot when it comes to getting the role and your digital branding should look professional too. You could fork out a small fortune for someone trained to take the reins, if you have the budget available, but with so many free resources online, including free fonts on this site, it can be fairly straight forward to do yourself. There are plenty of tutorials as well if you want to give it a go, even if you're a complete novice. Just make sure your branding reflects who you are and what you have to offer.

Think about your target market. If you are a family lifestyle blogger, like myself, or someone running a small bakery business, make sure your website is easy to navigate and fit for purpose. If it's difficult or time consuming for your audience to get the information required, or place an order, they may look elsewhere and it's unlikely they will be back again anytime soon. Once you've made your changes and updated your page ask friends and family to take a peek and provide feedback. Feedback is valuable as often others may notice something you have missed or offer some handy advice. Don't forget to make your website accessible for all with the option to increase font sizes and have your content displayed in different languages if applicable.

Be consistent. If you have social media pages to share your content and connect with possible clients, customers and the general public, try to ensure the branding is the same across each and every platform. It not only makes them more attractive in appearance but it gives you an identity and makes spotting you from the crowd that little easier. Make sure you have social media icons on your website and a link to your website on your social media accounts as well to link everything together nicely. Also ensure everything looks the same regardless of the device it's used on and use the same colour schemes throughout.

Video content is bigger than ever before with many influencers and companies creating regular reels and stories on Instagram, heading to TikTok and Snapchat to network, and opting for Facebook Lives alongside YouTube. Try to follow trends and let your audience see you, the face behind the brand. Connecting on a personal level allows you to appear more relatable and will help to increase your audience.

If you plan on creating a new logo make sure that it is still similar to your existing version in some way. Logos help brands to be recognised so if you change regularly or too extremely it may lose that identity you've spent time to build. If your brand has always featured bees or butterflies for example, try to incorporate them somewhere or stick with the original colours and change other areas instead. Doing anything too drastic, unless you're incredibly well known already, could have a negative impact.
