London Plans

It is unbelievable to think that 2013 is almost over! Where has it gone!? Before we know it, 2014 will be upon us so I’m planning ahead this year and sorting out our family holiday early.

This year, we’re thinking of staying in Britain and heading to London. I’ve been looking online to try and get a ballpark figure of how much the trip will cost us and I can’t believe how expensive London hotel stays are! To get something in our price range, we’d have to stay in a pokey box room of some budget hotel chain, miles from the city centre.

With not much hope left, I decided to do a quick search for apartment rentals in London. I was shocked to find out how much cheaper these short stay apartment rentals, from companies like Short Let London, can be. And, the more I think about it, the more benefits I can think of for staying in an apartment over a hotel.

The main advantage is obviously more space. Four of us, plus luggage, squashed into a hotel room would be cramped to say the least, not to mention all of the souvenirs we’re sure to acquire along the way. An apartment would be able to cater for all of this however. Some apartment companies even allow pets to stay too, so who knows, Spartan might get a holiday after all!

Not only is the initial price cheaper but staying in an apartment can even help you save money during your trip. Eating out can be expensive, not to mention the stress of finding somewhere that caters for fussy little ones. In addition, after a long day sightseeing, the last thing you want to do is to head back out again in search of food. Most apartments have a kitchen area that you can use to cook meals yourself, making it a much more practical option.

A lot of the apartments that I found were in central locations too, meaning that all of the local sights are at hand. The tube and excitable children on holiday don’t mix well, so this is a bonus for families staying in London, minimising the time and money spent on travelling.

Have you travelled to London this year?

  1. when are you coming to London? I leave here but still find exciting when I manage a little day trip to do a spot of sightseeing. One good thing to try is the airbnb website, you can find good places to stay at great prices. Also depending on when you're planning your trip for, you might be able to get great discounts on theatre and all sort of attractions, let me know if you want any help with that, i my be able to give you a tip or two ;)
